BREAKING FREE FROM FAMILY MYTHS, FEAR PATTERNS AND ARCHETYPAL TRAPS

BORN BAGGAGED is a non-fiction book that shines a fresh

light on the psychology of family ties, family lies and family

matters. It shows clearly that we are very often born into family

systems that lay the foundation for false beliefs about

ourselves. When the crucible in which our sense of self

overheats, the process of Becoming is altered.

BORN BAGGAGED in its essence shows how family matters

create fear patterns which develop into archetypal behavior

and restrictive belief systems. This book points towards some

proof that psychotherapy offers ways and tools to change our

inner dialogue and find the gift in the wound of our malaise.

In this book the author prepares the soil for an in-depth

understanding of the process of psychological alchemy.

Drawing on existing academic research, her professional

exploration and experiences as a psychotherapist in practice for more than thirty five years, ongoing research, academic and professional training and her own experiences of finding the gifts in the wound, Dr Marleen offers a deep and clear understanding of how and why we respond to troublesome experiences of psychological and emotional wounding and trauma which start  early in life, in our families, in the ways that we do.   This is not a book of blaming, naming and shaming. This is a book that helps the reader to understand why we have learnt to disbelieve ourselves, our bodies, our minds.  This is a book that is aimed at a succinct understanding of how we develop fear patterns on an unconscious level and how these patterns unfold as life happens.

Much like building a jigsaw puzzle, BORN BAGGAGED is constructed in such a way that the reader finds an order in how the various pieces fit together to form a whole picture.  The author describes how fear patterns are formed in the unconscious, how these patterns collide in the psyche and result in certain archetypal behaviors and how we respond to these. She details the formation of fear patterns and psychological archetypes, going into an in -depth exploration of the development and expressions of these.

Based on her extensive experience as a multimodality psychotherapist, Dr. Marleen offers an understanding and insight of why therapy is a powerful agent not only for healing but also for transformation and metamorphosis. She stresses the significance of holding ourselves accountable for our personal growth and illustrates through real stories how it is possible to change our minds, to create new neurological pathways to experience life differently and to truly embark on a lifelong path of self-mastery and being authentic. Th is a major responsibility towards ourselves and others. It is very hard work changing the bitter fruits falling off the tree of family matters into a smorgasbord of balance, beauty, acceptance, forgiveness, inner harmony and the ability to care deeply about ourselves, about others, about our planet. It all matters.

There is much beauty and potency in the therapeutic journeys offered generously, with consent, by the various patients who grace this book with their pain, woundedness, their heavy baggage and their ultimate experiences of finding hope, finding light, finding their voices and finding more peace.  Our stories all matter.

This book is written for those who care enough to care enough about themselves and others, for those who want to live into their full potential, for those who want to live creatively, authentically and who want to grow as human beings.  It is written in a creative manner which has to potential to reach out to those who read creatively, those who are curious about being human, who resonate with learning about themselves by reading the real life stories of people in the world around us.
